Cocos Aculeatus — Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin
This historic botanical plate presents Cocos aculeatus as a remarkably spare study of a tropical palm. A long, finely articulated trunk rises through the center of the pale ground before opening into a compact crown of narrow green fronds. A single rounded fruit appears separately to the right, balancing the strong vertical form of the tree.
Fine brown lines describe the ringed trunk, while olive and yellow-green leaflets radiate from the crown alongside small reddish-brown details. The restrained palette and generous surrounding space give the specimen an unusually graphic presence. Historically published under the name Cocos aculeatus by Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin, the plant is associated with the palm now known as Acrocomia aculeata. The plate combines botanical observation with the elegant economy characteristic of early natural-history illustration.
