This historical natural-history plate presents a vividly colored fish in lateral profile, accompanied by a smaller study of its open mouth and teeth. Golden scales and warm orange tones cover the lower body, while the darker upper surface is crossed by an irregular network of striking blue markings.

Fine lines articulate the scales and individual fin rays, with further blue accents defining the jaw, fins, and tail. The generous cream ground keeps attention on the specimen and gives its saturated palette an unusually strong graphic quality. The plate belongs to Icones rerum naturalium, a natural-history work published in Copenhagen by E.A.H. Möller in 1805–1806.
