This eighteenth-century botanical plate presents Brownea coccinea as a compact flowering branch surrounded by a broad field of warm cream paper. Long olive-green leaves extend outward from a fine reddish stem, while a dense cluster of pendant crimson and magenta flowers hangs beneath the center of the branch.
