Cladactis — Sea Anemones of the Gulf of Naples

Cladactis presents two contrasting sea anemone forms within a rocky marine setting. The larger specimen rises diagonally across the plate, its peach-orange body covered with clusters of golden nodules and crowned by extraordinarily long, pale tentacles that drift across the muted background.

A smaller specimen occupies the lower right, where green and yellow structures pattern its rounded body. Olive, ochre, and brown rocks surround both organisms, creating a restrained setting for their intricate forms. The delicate coloration and careful modeling give the plate the precision of scientific observation while retaining the visual richness characteristic of nineteenth-century natural-history illustration.
