East Asian Decapods — Crustacean Study Plate I
Three crustacean specimens emerge dramatically from a deep black photographic field in this historical zoological plate from Ostasiatische Decapoden II. Two large specimens rise vertically on either side of the composition, while a much smaller third example occupies the lower centre, producing a striking and carefully balanced arrangement.
Pale segmented bodies, articulated legs, prominent claws, tail structures, and exceptionally long antennae stand in sharp contrast against the dark background. The looping antennae bring graceful movement to an otherwise precise scientific presentation. Warm aged paper, original specimen numbers, publication headings, and the photographic credit preserve the distinctive character of the historical plate.
