Fort Marion National Monument, St. Augustine, Florida presents C. Don Powell’s graphic interpretation of the historic fort now known as Castillo de San Marcos. A monumental stone bastion rises beside still water, its rounded watchtower and deep blue-violet shadow dominating the right side of the composition. Across the moat, a spreading tree and lower walls create a quieter counterpoint to the architecture.

Designed around 1938 for the National Park Service, the poster uses light blue, sandy beige, dark green and deep blue-violet in broad screen-printed forms. Reflections in the water extend the architecture and vegetation downward, while simplified clouds and strong geometric shadows give the scene its distinctive WPA-era character. Department of the Interior and National Park Service lettering is integrated directly into the upper portion of the design.
