Grand Canyon National Park, a Free Government Service presents C. Don Powell’s striking interpretation of one of America’s most recognizable landscapes. Layered mesas and deep canyon walls stretch toward the horizon, built from broad areas of dusty pink, violet, orange, cream and blue-gray beneath a simplified sky.

Designed around 1938 for the National Park Service, the poster translates the immense scale of the Grand Canyon into strong graphic shapes and a restrained color palette. Dark shadows emphasize the canyon’s depth while lighter plateaus lead toward the distance.
