Interior of Rüstem Paşa Mosque, Constantinople

The interior of the Rüstem Paşa Mosque in Constantinople is recorded here as a dense arrangement of patterned tilework, Arabic calligraphy and architectural detail. Blue and white dominate the tiled walls, punctuated by restrained red accents, while a large calligraphic panel extends across the upper center of the composition.

At right, the elevated minbar and its tall canopy provide a strong vertical counterpoint to the repeating floral and geometric surfaces.
