Keep Your Teeth Clean — WPA Poster, 1936–1938
Keep Your Teeth Clean turns a simple dental-health message into a bold geometric composition. A circular face outlined in muted red sits against an almost black field, its small grid of white teeth accompanied by a pale blue toothbrush and toothpaste tube. Heavy black lettering above and below gives the poster its direct visual rhythm.
Created by the Federal Art Project in Rochester, New York, between 1936 and 1938, the design uses remarkably few elements to promote good oral hygiene. Its restrained palette, simplified human figure and monumental typography are characteristic of the direct graphic language found throughout WPA-era public-information posters.
