Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the most imaginative artists of the late Edo period. Celebrated for his warriors, actors, monsters, ghosts, and legendary heroes, he combined traditional ukiyo-e printmaking with dramatic storytelling and an unmistakable sense of humor.
