Pothos acaulis — Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin

This late-eighteenth-century botanical illustration presents Pothos acaulis as a dense arrangement of broad leaves rising from a short section of exposed stem and roots. Strong central veins divide the ochre and olive foliage, while long curving stalks and finely patterned flowering structures introduce touches of red, cream, and brown.

The plate comes from Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin's Selectarum stirpium Americanarum historia, a major illustrated study of American plants. In the 1780–81 edition, Pothos acaulis appears as plate 231. Its combination of careful botanical observation, restrained color, and bold overlapping foliage gives the image a particularly graphic character.
