Frank A. Nankivell's wonderfully imaginative The Air-Serpent appeared in Puck magazine on July 14, 1909, transforming the excitement surrounding early aviation into an extraordinary fantasy in the clouds. An enormous green-scaled winged serpent twists around the rigging of an airship while startled aerial navigators encounter the fantastic creature high above the landscape.
