Capparis octandra — Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin
This eighteenth-century botanical plate presents a single Capparis specimen against a broad expanse of warm cream paper. A slender reddish-brown stem supports elongated olive-green leaves, delicate pale flowers and buds, with ochre-toned dried forms appearing behind the lower foliage.
The specimen is surrounded by generous negative space, giving the composition a quiet and precise character. Fine botanical linework remains visible throughout the flowers, stems, and leaves, while the handwritten identification beneath the plant and plate number 149 preserve the archival character of the original sheet.
