Diaspiti — Antonio Berlese
This late nineteenth-century scientific plate presents a series of enlarged anatomical studies of Diaspiti, or armoured scale insects. Five numbered figures are distributed across an open cream ground, with fine lettered annotations identifying individual structures and sections.
The large central specimen forms the visual focus, combining looping internal structures, cellular forms, elongated chambers, and delicate appendages. Smaller surrounding diagrams isolate particular anatomical details for comparison. Fine outlines, stippling, and closely worked linear shading give the plate its precise scientific character while retaining the quiet graphic quality of nineteenth-century natural-history illustration.
