Heliactis — Sea Anemones of the Gulf of Naples
Heliactis presents a group of sea anemones emerging between rocks in a richly colored marine zoology study. Tall orange and burnt-red specimens dominate the composition, surrounded by smaller pink, yellow, and red forms whose radiating tentacles introduce changes in scale and texture.
The anemones are rendered with remarkable attention to their patterned bodies and dense crowns of tentacles. Pale spots punctuate the warmer forms, while muted gray-brown rocks and an olive-green background provide a restrained setting. The result balances scientific observation with the unusually decorative character of nineteenth-century natural-history illustration.
