Le Douc — Red-Shanked Douc by Audebert

This refined natural-history plate presents the douc langur balancing on a branching tree limb. Its striking coloration moves from a dark cap and cream cheek fur to muted grey, black and deep reddish tones, giving the animal an unusually vivid presence against the broad cream ground.

Fine engraved texture describes the fur, hands, feet and bark with remarkable care, while the long pale tail creates a graceful curve behind the figure. The original French title and historical scientific designation remain part of the composition, preserving the character of eighteenth-century zoological illustration.
