Leopard Gecko — Antique Russian Zoological Plate
This early twentieth-century zoological plate presents Eublepharis macularius, the leopard gecko, viewed directly from above. The animal is isolated against a broad field of warm cream paper, placing particular emphasis on its spotted body, broad head, splayed limbs, individual toes, and thick patterned tail.
Fine stippling and delicate linear work describe the granular texture of the skin and the changing markings across the body and tail. The restrained monochrome treatment and almost symmetrical specimen presentation reflect the precise visual language of historical scientific illustration, while the aged paper gives the plate a distinctive archival character.
