Radiated Animals is a striking nineteenth-century natural history study of Radiolaria, microscopic marine organisms represented through elaborate geometric structures. Seven specimens appear against a deep black field, where their radial spines, latticed frameworks and translucent forms create an unusually dramatic scientific composition.
Star-shaped, spherical and elongated specimens are articulated in ivory, golden yellow, orange, red and green. Extremely fine lines extend around several forms like luminous halos, giving the plate an almost celestial quality while preserving its scientific character. Numbered specimens and the original identification key remain integral to the composition, combining historical taxonomy with the visual precision of period natural-history publishing.
