Two carefully observed views of a frog occupy the open cream field of this nineteenth-century natural-history plate. The upper specimen is distinguished by rich green colouring, dark irregular markings and fine yellow accents, while the lower view reveals the pale underside, folded limbs and long articulated toes.

The restrained arrangement allows the delicate lithographic linework and hand-coloured details to remain the focus. Originally published in John Edwards Holbrook's influential study of North American reptiles and amphibians, the plate combines scientific observation with the quiet visual character of nineteenth-century natural-history illustration.
