Work at the Bakalskii Mine — Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii
€39,94
Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii photographed this family working at the Bakalskii mine in 1910. A pale horse and wooden cart form the center of the scene, surrounded by workers, tools, and another horse-drawn cart against the exposed layers of the iron mine.
The subdued browns and grays of the quarry are punctuated by small areas of white, red, and blue. Made using Prokudin-Gorskii's pioneering three-color separation process, the photograph combines the immediacy of documentary photography with the unusual color presence of his early twentieth-century work.
